Bio:
David Bateson was born in Durban, South Africa and brought up both there and in the UK. He now lives and works in Copenhagen. He trained as an actor in SA and started working as a voice actor while still studying at university. He has performed extensively in TV, film and theatre in both SA, the UK and in Denmark but it’s in the medium of voice recording where he has really established himself internationally, winning voice acting awards at the Voice Arts Awards in New York; the One Voice Awards in London and most recently, the VOX Awards, also in the UK.
He is the face and voice of IO Interactive’s AAA game franchise Hitman, playing the lead character of Agent 47 for the last 25 years and still going strong. Agent 47 is an immensely complex character and David Bateson has brought a brooding, melancholic intensity to the Hitman character. His portrayal of a cloned assassin-for-hire is both dangerous and appealing both in its flawed humanity and very subtle humor.
In fact, in a world survey carried out in 2024 by BAFTA Games, of who is the most iconic gaming character of all time, Agent 47 came third! In this fast-developing and ever evolving industry, this is an extraordinary achievement.
Useless facts: he is the Danish voice of Bowser, made famous by Jack Black. While at university, he created a disguised hitman character that “whacked” people with pies to raise money for charity!
